Blog 9: Heroic Acts and Heroic Personalities

In my opinion I think a hero is someone who behavior or personality fits a hero. Someone could commit heroic act but there personality can be different from how they really feel on helping. Their behavior fit a hero on how they show if a person really cares they put their effort on helping / saving anything or anyone. Someone who commits heroic acts is people like Superman, Rosa parks, & Martin Luther King. People who care about the world and changes they could bring to world. Those people I would say are Hero’s.  They commit to what they bring and they don’t back off. Even in other movies where others are saving, helping people they become a hero for that person. Hero can be from personality, some others are not helpful or care but when something happen they become a different person and change to help.
In the movie “HERO” Bernie was just a con-artist who steals credits cards and sells them to buyers, and didn’t really care about people / society around him, Johnny is just a regular guy who just wants good things for himself. There are a few examples from the movie where Bernie was a hero. He saved 54 people from flight 104. Bernie wasn’t the type of guy to care about others but something told him to help and he did , he even went back in the plane to get a boy father even thou he ended up saving a young lady name Gale and stole her wallet. Bernie was someone who commits heroic acts just for the moment. Johnny was a random guy whom Bernie hitch a ride with and told him how his night had went. Once Bernie found out what Johnny did with the shoe, Bernie wanted the money he didn’t care about others or what Johnny was doing. Throughout the movie you see how Bernie was acting from how john was displaying himself. Even thou they both wanted one million dollars Johnny took the money and did charity work while Bernie was behind bar telling inmates how Johnny lied. (Even thou he did) even thou in the end Johnny didn’t feel right he wanted to do the right thing , Bernie also did the right thing by confronting Johnny and telling him it’s fine . Bernie started to show a different side of him and became not selfish like a hero.
Heroic acts can be describes as someone who has different personality like one second they care and then they don’t. They just want to be in the spotlight for the moment or they just really don’t care. I remember being in the subway and a girl fainted no one didn’t get out of their seats to see what had happen or seem to bother  but a few including myself did go and help . Those people are what you called heroic acts they put on a show when they actually care it’s not because they really do want to help. Sometime people tend to show themselves as hero’s by their personality or their behavior , people do that by environmental changes or walking for cancer , taking food to the homeless shelter , being a counseling  for the youth or even by helping an old women cross the streets that makes them feel good how themselves and feel like a hero. Someone whom personality or behavior fits a hero act doesn’t necessarily mean they are hero’s it means they do the right thing when they can. They feel a lot better helping. But I guess certain things a person do can be consider as a hero.

Blog 8 Revise CATW Practice 1

The author Elizabeth Scott talks about how research has shown that music has profound effect on your body and mind. She speaks about the benefits in using music to get better in your health issues. The author gives examples on how music can be used as therapy to ease tension from your body or mind by the beats from music that stimulates brainwaves to consternation   and alert thinking. When listing to slower beat it calms your brainwaves to move slower to have a relaxation throughout your body.
When the author speaks about faster beats brings sharper consternation and more thinking, I find that it is most significant to me because I feel when I listing to faster music it keeps me going throughout my day. It makes me feel more energized and more willing to keep going .Another example the author gives is breathing and heart rates, that music can slow down into relaxation response or other things that won’t cause stress or any other effects. She states that depending on the beat of the music your mind becomes more positive, while your depression and anxiety is kept under control.
In my opinion, I think music is a good tool for health, not only that music is growing in society but also for therapy. It makes people more motivated to pay attention and control    their angry that they have within them. Music affects the mind in a powerful ways. When I hear a certain song I jump up and down until I get tired. I work at a library that promotes ads and free fun activities, I remember we had a zumba class , I remember watching how much fun people would have by dancing with a certain beat played by the instructor , and they thought by dancing (doing certain moves) would help them with their weight and it did ! . People gave good feedback on how much the class has helped them just by dancing / moving a certain way when the music is playing.
This passage I learned how music affects your body and mind and how it helps you relax. Blog 7 CATW2

This topic is about being in a group or being by you self  In this summary “ the Individualism In Groups” by Carol Tavris  explains how an individual reacts to something on their than being in a group. The author explains / gives example on these experiments with individual. One significant  idea from the summary that I can agree with is “ DIFFUSION OF RESPONSIBITY “, I feel when more  people are in a group they tend to show less knowledge of their surroundings then being one .
The author gives a few examples and one that I find most interesting is a small group smelling smoke and coughing and still not moving .When you’re in a group where your mind focuses more with your friends and not the smell, this is called behavioral psychology. Another example is where they staged situations to see what people would do in groups or by themselves, this called “DIFFUSION OF RESPONSIBITY”.
In my opinion I could agree with the author not only does the summary discuss situations but also I feel that it is true, some individuals could be different when they’re not among others. Sometimes things happen and we don’t do anything about it but just watch or walk away. This summary explains why some of us think others don’t have common sense because of what they do. When being in a group we have to understand we could be our self-that’s the point of having friends they like us for our personality not because we don’t care about others.
In conclusion this summary was good for readers not only did it make us look between the lines but I feel we do act a certain way when we are in groups then being my one self . The author gives good example and good ideas on how much we change when were in groups than individuals

Blog 5 "Historical and Personal Illusions.”

I think I did have some type of relation to Plato’s cave. I would believe in so many things that I would actually look it up just to make sure it was somewhat real.  I once believed humans couldn’t control their brain a certain way and when I look up it said you only use half of your brain. I did believe it but then I thought to myself maybe everyone’s different. Everyone uses their brain for certain things and you could only remember what your brain remembers.  My beliefs are not currently being question because I know that my brain is part of my body and it works when I want it to. The Plato’s cave, People had illusions; it’s what in their mind that wants them to believe what is happening. I still do believe that your brain works when you want it. That’s just my opinion. There’s a lot of thing out there that you can believe , when you get to a certain age you realized certain things aren’t true until you have witness it .
Sometimes some people accept certain things like sleeping a certain time of the day your brain need a hour rest and when you get back up you feel energized , Me personally I love taking naps but when I get up I’m just lazy until I eat or  do a certain thing to actually realized I need to be awake now . Sometimes people feel like they have flash backs even thou that certain flashback didn’t happen as yet. It’s an illusion on what your mind wants you think or to feel . The Plato’s cave actually tells you what the prisoner were having illusions about. Until one prisoner comes back and tells them that there’s a whole another world out there but they didn’t believe what he said because in their minds they have been trap, chain, and just looking at their own shadows hearing voices seeing other reflections in which they can’t explain but believe in it was in there mind . Their mind made them believe in things that they couldn’t understand.

Summary of “The Allegory of the Cave.”

The allegory of the cave is a text examining if humans really know the truth of an outside world or not, in this passage, humans are hostage, chained from head to toe , only seeing their own shadows and have illusions of figures and hearing voices, but one prisoner was released and when he sawed the “light” (the sun) he couldn’t bare the pain . It took him a while to gradually get accustomed to the new world that he didn’t think existed besides the cave. This text opens up to what he realized.

Blog 3 " Revised Diagnotic"

In my opinion this passage the “HYPE” by Kalle Lasn was writing because the author came to realization on how many commercials, ads and billboards that is out there in the world. She feels as if there is no place exempt from advertisement. The subconscious mind no longer reflects on the simple moments of life, Such as hearing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony play in your head.  Instead, the author hears the Oscar Meyer wiener song.

In this passage one significant idea for me will be the commercials on TV because every time I flip the channel I feel like there are always promotions or advertisement. I feel like this is significant because the commercials are so overwhelming that we don’t even begin to realize how many there are. As the author states, there are more than 200,000 TV commercials being dumped into North Americans subconscious. She also states that the increase happened so steadily and without stopping that we still haven’t realized it. Also ads used to be confined to places such as buses, billboards and stadiums. Now there are ads on every channel even whole channels dedicated to constant advertisement. There are ads everywhere!

I agree with Ms. Lasn when she says that corporate America feels like everywhere your eyes comes to rest can and ought to be filled with a logo or ad. There’s even a company called Video Carte who developed a way to put interactive screens on the shopping carts so you could see ads while you shop. Also in school I have read ads and I never understood why there would be such an ad there if it has nothing to do with the school, for example the snickers and Pepsi ads in school.

Advertisements are the most prevalent and toxic of mental pollutants because it does affect us in our everyday life. The more we hear and see, the more we get accustomed to it and we don’t try and prevent it. Advertisements are all over New York City, there is no running from them. We are subconsciously exposed to them. That’s why sometimes I catch myself singing along with a commercial that I didn’t even realize I knew. We have to try and be smart and find ways to ignore the commercials and ads. That’s why I record my shows and skip through the ads.

In conclusion, the passage “Hype” helps awaken us to the world of advertisement that we live in. The author Ms. Lasn points out the over whelming amount of ads as well as their subconscious effects on us. There is nowhere to run or hide from them. They are everywhere, even in the most useless places.
