BLOG12

As an individual, I feel that the entire practice test I have done has been helpful, I learned different techniques in writing an essay. My weakness has been more examples of what the author talks about in articles, describing each one and then with a one personal significance. I learned not to give as much examples and more significance. I notice a change throughout blog 1 to blog 11. My grammar hasn’t been well in writing but re-reading my blogs has been helpful. I would learn which words to use and how to use it.

One thing I have learned in reading a passage is pay attention on what the author points out and use as examples. For me I feel once I find out what the example is I think about if it has happen to me or with someone else. Then I go forward re-reading the passage again underlining certain ideas that the author gives. In order  for myself to pass a test I feel that I need to review my notes at least once every day , be on time on the day the test is taken because I feel once I’m late everything goes wrong , also for me I have to have a good mind being well focus on what I have to achieve .

I feel that I need to pay more attention on what ideas the author gives and put in more words also re-reading the article more than once, checking to make sure there’s no punctuation missing and spelling words incorrectly. For me I follow the steps that I was taught throughout high school and learned more steps during my first semester in this class. Sometimes I follow these steps,

Is always knowing the main idea in the article

Is finding and understanding the examples the author gives

A significance including my own example

My opinions on agreeing /disagreeing on what the author speaks about

My conclusion which sometimes I don’t really know what to write about but in my blogging class I learned you just give a brief summary on the main idea which is what the author talks about.

Blog 11 The revision " CATW Practice 2"

This topic is about being in a group or being by you self  In this summary “ the Individualism In Groups” by Carol Tavris  explains how an individual reacts to something on their own  than being in a group. He explains in his experiments’ what has happen to people whom are in groups or by their selves

The author gives a few examples and one that I find most interesting is a small group smelling smoke and coughing and still not moving .When you’re in a group where your mind focuses more with your friends and not the smell, this is called behavioral psychology. People have shown not to care much about their surrounding when with friends.

One time I was sitting in a train, it was pack. I remember seeing an elderly lady coughing and coughing I knew something was wrong with her. But like others in the train was too busy talking, listing to music or sleeping.  When she collapse, people in the train did not seem to care, only two people got up to look at her while others watch. At that moment I felt horrible for the fact we all act completely different to people when were in a group or as an individual. Our mind isn’t aware of our surroundings at all. Some people didn’t even know a women collapse until they realized what was going on.

In my opinion I could agree with the author not only does the summary discuss situations but also I feel that it is true, some individuals could be different when they’re not among others. Sometimes things happen and we don’t do anything about it but just watch or walk away. This summary explains why some of us think others don’t have common sense because of what they do. When being in a group we have to understand we could be our self-that’s the point of having friends they like us for our personality not because we don’t care about others.

In conclusion this summary was good I find it interesting to know how we act as an individual or in a group. The author gives good example and explains each example in an understanding way.

Blog 10: CATW Practice 3

In the passage, How Your Birth Order influence your life adjustment by Lucille Forer explains how the child becomes known as an only, younger, or by middle depending on the order of their birth .

One of the author most important ideas is how a child is place into a role to establish what certain attitude he/she should have towards certain people. The author gives examples on each child older, younger, middle, or only child.  An older child is more capable as the middle child thinks of himself similar to the oldest; the youngest child is less able to do certain things than others. As for the only child tend to think as an own person.

One significant part of this summary id bring and older child and having a younger sibling. the reason why, my brother was older than me by 7 years, throughout the years that we grew together he was always responsible and he thought about himself while I was the middle child always willing to help and always wanted to do better than my other sibling my younger sister was more concerned on how people thought of her and always wanted someone to help her with homework because she was spoiled.

I thought being in a certain order wouldn’t make a difference on how your values are towards your family but it does. The oldest is smarter the middle is trying to keep up and the younger always becomes the laziest. In my opinion each and one of us has a role to play even if we are the only child it is just more pressure being by yourself and not having any siblings.

Sometimes since it get intense because I have to take on more responsibilities and be a role model for my sister or she’ll become even lazier. I play a role as being the middle/oldest child now because I developed more interest.

In my opinion your birth order dose influence your life, the more responsibilities   you take the more you grow as an adult and need parents around as much. When the author speaks about other members of the family expects certain attitudes from each child, it is very true. Your order dose influences your life it’s how you become and adult and proves to your family on what they expected from you. You can even help friends with decisions just by the way your expected. Your birth order helps influence others around you in school.

In conclusion this passage tells you what roles a person plays being in a certain birth order. I believe that it does make a difference in what order you are born in especially towards my parents. This passage gives good examples and explains the birth order and also helps you figure what type of behavior you should have.

Blog 9: Heroic Acts and Heroic Personalities

In my opinion I think a hero is someone who behavior or personality fits a hero. Someone could commit heroic act but there personality can be different from how they really feel on helping. Their behavior fit a hero on how they show if a person really cares they put their effort on helping / saving anything or anyone. Someone who commits heroic acts is people like Superman, Rosa parks, & Martin Luther King. People who care about the world and changes they could bring to world. Those people I would say are Hero’s.  They commit to what they bring and they don’t back off. Even in other movies where others are saving, helping people they become a hero for that person. Hero can be from personality, some others are not helpful or care but when something happen they become a different person and change to help.
In the movie “HERO” Bernie was just a con-artist who steals credits cards and sells them to buyers, and didn’t really care about people / society around him, Johnny is just a regular guy who just wants good things for himself. There are a few examples from the movie where Bernie was a hero. He saved 54 people from flight 104. Bernie wasn’t the type of guy to care about others but something told him to help and he did , he even went back in the plane to get a boy father even thou he ended up saving a young lady name Gale and stole her wallet. Bernie was someone who commits heroic acts just for the moment. Johnny was a random guy whom Bernie hitch a ride with and told him how his night had went. Once Bernie found out what Johnny did with the shoe, Bernie wanted the money he didn’t care about others or what Johnny was doing. Throughout the movie you see how Bernie was acting from how john was displaying himself. Even thou they both wanted one million dollars Johnny took the money and did charity work while Bernie was behind bar telling inmates how Johnny lied. (Even thou he did) even thou in the end Johnny didn’t feel right he wanted to do the right thing , Bernie also did the right thing by confronting Johnny and telling him it’s fine . Bernie started to show a different side of him and became not selfish like a hero.
Heroic acts can be describes as someone who has different personality like one second they care and then they don’t. They just want to be in the spotlight for the moment or they just really don’t care. I remember being in the subway and a girl fainted no one didn’t get out of their seats to see what had happen or seem to bother  but a few including myself did go and help . Those people are what you called heroic acts they put on a show when they actually care it’s not because they really do want to help. Sometime people tend to show themselves as hero’s by their personality or their behavior , people do that by environmental changes or walking for cancer , taking food to the homeless shelter , being a counseling  for the youth or even by helping an old women cross the streets that makes them feel good how themselves and feel like a hero. Someone whom personality or behavior fits a hero act doesn’t necessarily mean they are hero’s it means they do the right thing when they can. They feel a lot better helping. But I guess certain things a person do can be consider as a hero.

Blog 8 Revise CATW Practice 1

The author Elizabeth Scott talks about how research has shown that music has profound effect on your body and mind. She speaks about the benefits in using music to get better in your health issues. The author gives examples on how music can be used as therapy to ease tension from your body or mind by the beats from music that stimulates brainwaves to consternation   and alert thinking. When listing to slower beat it calms your brainwaves to move slower to have a relaxation throughout your body.
When the author speaks about faster beats brings sharper consternation and more thinking, I find that it is most significant to me because I feel when I listing to faster music it keeps me going throughout my day. It makes me feel more energized and more willing to keep going .Another example the author gives is breathing and heart rates, that music can slow down into relaxation response or other things that won’t cause stress or any other effects. She states that depending on the beat of the music your mind becomes more positive, while your depression and anxiety is kept under control.
In my opinion, I think music is a good tool for health, not only that music is growing in society but also for therapy. It makes people more motivated to pay attention and control    their angry that they have within them. Music affects the mind in a powerful ways. When I hear a certain song I jump up and down until I get tired. I work at a library that promotes ads and free fun activities, I remember we had a zumba class , I remember watching how much fun people would have by dancing with a certain beat played by the instructor , and they thought by dancing (doing certain moves) would help them with their weight and it did ! . People gave good feedback on how much the class has helped them just by dancing / moving a certain way when the music is playing.
